We are committed to being a fully accessible centre and strive to give everyone the same opportunities to experience, learn and develop through adventure and discovery.
Please be aware that some activities are situated at the bottom of a lengthy gradient. Power assisted wheelchairs would be useful as the push up the hill back to accommodation can be a challenge. Rooms can be on the small side for wheelchair users; taking a mobile hoist and other equipment should be considered. Some equipment can be hired on site at no fee. Accessible bathrooms are large as is the kitchen and lounge area - plenty of space for many many wheelchairs.
Why is Avon Tyrrell unique? Set inside the New Forest National Park our location is wonderful and our staff, with their ‘can do’ attitude have the total belief that we should make every visit special.
We understand the needs are different for everyone and for this reason we have specialised staff who are passionate about inclusion to ensure we can discuss your needs and understand how we can best accommodate them. Popular activities include canoeing and zip-wiring.
If you have additional needs, there should be no holding you back. Our professional and friendly staff deliver high quality support in a safe, accessible environment. You can enjoy the outdoors and leave with amazing memories often having experienced something completely new.
We have the staff and equipment to enable you to participate in as many opportunities as possible, be it mountain biking on specialised bikes, climbing 10 metres up our climbing tower, canoeing on our lake or much much more.
Guests of all ages and abilities can enjoy the centre knowing that we are always here for support when you need us. From our Guest services team to our qualified instructors, if you have a question, just ask. Our staff are fully trained to support and can advise you where needed.

What a great idea to meet up with friends who have children with disabilities and all be in the same lodge. The lounge and kitchen area was huge. In our lodge (Avon Lodge) it has 7 Double rooms with twin beds. Rooms are not large and it needs a certain amount of skill to find somewhere for all that extra kit you may have to bring. One room has an en suite bathroom (non-accessible) and there is a huge accessible bathroom. We took our own special moulded toilet seat, several mobile hoists plus some all-terrain special needs buggies. There was plenty of room for all of this equipment plus 7 children in wheelchairs. Be aware that some muscles are needed for the push back up the hill from the activities to the accommodation. Be prepared for a no frills experience which is great fun - buy your shopping and share the catering. Our activities included canoeing and the zip wire. All the children who are permanent wheelchair users were able to take part. Thank you Avon Tyrell!
