About Freedom Wheelchair Skills

Freedom Wheelchair Skills offers peer-led teaching of everyday skills and techniques to help people get the most out of life while using a wheelchair. Many wheelchair users can struggle to be independent, to confidently push down to the local shops or to see friends, negotiate curbs and potholes, and open doors on their own. I started Freedom Wheelchair Skills, which can teach people who need to use wheelchairs how to use the chair effectively, safely and positively.

Being a young person when I was injured, I can fully understand the irritations people face. I have experience teaching young people the vital skills they need to overcome frustrations in group training sessions and one-to-one, helping them build their confidence and increase their independence.

I believe the best way to learn how to use a wheelchair is directly from someone who uses a wheelchair themselves on a daily basis. The skills are taught in a safe environment which has a flavour of many different surfaces and obstacles that a user might face on a day-to-day basis. Some training takes place inside and some outside, because in reality skills would be applied in all environments. People can then transfer those skills into their everyday lives. 

My aim is to develop the skills and confidence of people who need a wheelchair for their mobility, to enable them to lead more independent lives and get out there!
