The easy access holiday carriage with a view!
St Germans - Cornwall - PL12 5LU
Millpool is fully accessible accommodation to Visit England's National Accessibility Scheme level M3. Although Millpool has been designed with accessibility in mind it is completely suitable for the able bodied too. We have worked hard to ensure that it is practical without being clinical and that it retains its unique railway carriage character. Take a look at our Accessibility Guide and for holiday planning, visit our Out and About in a Wheelchair page.
Millpool’s open plan design gives it a feeling of light and space and although not adjacent to the railway line, the views over the surrounding countryside are magnificent. Packed with original features, from picnic basket signs, to cast iron luggage racks and brass match strikers, Millpool was built by the GWR at Swindon in 1897. It is a 31 foot Brake Third with 3 third class compartments and a guard’s compartment complete with duckets (a ducket protrudes beyond the normal profile of the train and has narrow windows so that the guard could sit in it and look along the train without putting his head out of the window).
Pets are welcome and will enjoy the enclosed terrace and the ten acres of private woodland just a few minutes walk away. Our pets page has more information.
St Germans is a small village in south east Cornwall on the banks of the Lynher estuary, 4 miles inland from the south coast. It grew around a priory dating from 937AD, parts of which became incorporated into the nationally renowned Parish Church and the Grade 1 listed Port Eliot house. The old part of the village (which includes the railway station) is designated as a Conservation Area and the surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The estuary is recognised as a good bird habitat by several Site of Special Scientific Interest areas.
